FOR GOOD CONTROL. With the large-area support cushion, you can guide your earth auger smoothly and precisely. The cushion fits comfortably against your body during drilling, providing optimal hold and good guidance.
FOR SAFE WORK. The STIHL QuickStop system automatically interrupts the drilling process as soon as it detects that the earth auger device is twisting. This usually happens when the auger is blocked. The system makes sure the earth auger device shuts down immediately in this case. Once the blockage has been removed or the auger has been loosened counter-clockwise, the earth auger device can be reactivated at the control handle and the drilling process can continue.
PROTECTED TRANSPORT. The switch-off lever of the STIHL QuickStop system can be folded in and locked for transport. This reduces the space required for storage. The compact design of the STIHL QuickStop transport bracket also protects all system components from impacts during transport.
LOW-MAINTENANCE AND EFFICIENT. Thanks to its compact design, low weight and high efficiency, the EC engine enables you to work in an energy efficient manner. This engine also has a long service life.
SPLASHWATER PROTECTION. The IPX protection classes define the moisture protection of electrical or electronic devices. The moisture protection test is defined in different stages. IPX4 certifies protection against splashwater from all sides. Battery-powered tools with this certification are therefore designed for daily use, even in rainy conditions.
COMPATIBLE WITH THE SMART CONNECTOR 2A. You can mount a Smart Connector 2 A in the housing of the power tool at the dedicated position. Once installed, this connects to the control unit and transmits valuable power tool data to your smartphone, tablet or the STIHL connected Box that is within range. You can use the STIHL connected App and the STIHL connected Portal to view the STIHL connected gathered data and benefit from additional functions.

The BTA 140 is a professional battery-powered earth auger from STIHL. Part of the AP System, this powerful auger is designed for demanding users in horticulture and landscaping, forestry, agriculture and construction. Capable of drilling holes up to 300 mm in diameter, this tool makes fast work of driving posts, digging planting holes and drainage shafts, and creating small to medium-sized foundations. Sharp drill bits and spindles with cutting blades help the auger penetrate even challenging, stony ground efficiently.
The BTA 140 is powered by a high-performance EC motor that runs smoothly and with low vibration for comfortable operation. As it’s battery-powered, it’s also quiet to use and suited to working in noise sensitive areas without the need for hearing protection. Designed as a one-person tool, the auger has a well-balanced, close-to-body drilling axis to support an ergonomic working position.
Control is simple via the handle, with three operating modes to suit the job:
- Slow / Low gear (0-170 rpm) - for easy, low-kickback work
- Fast / High gear (0-230 rpm) - for tougher ground conditions
- Reverse gear (0-35 rpm) - to help free jammed drill bits from roots or stones
The selected mode is activated on the control handle and shown clearly on the integrated display.
A large, comfortable cushion helps you guide the auger smoothly and precisely during drilling. If a blockage occurs, the STIHL QuickStop system automatically detects twisting and stops the drilling process to help protect the user and the tool. Work can be resumed immediately by reactivating the auger on the control handle. For storage and transport, an intelligent transport bracket allows the device to be stored in a space-saving way while also helping to protect the QuickStop system from impacts. The BTA 140 is IPX4 certified, meaning it is splashproof and can be used reliably in rainy conditions.
The BTA 140 can be used with all exisiting STIHL drill accessories (not included) between 40mm to 300mm.
With the recommended AP 300 S battery you can make around 230 holes (90mm auger attachment) or 150 holes (150mm auger attachment).
