Head Ranger - Anna Charles

Head Ranger Anna Charles with brushcutter

When you’re the Head Ranger of a country park that’s home to 225 hectares of woodland, grassland, meadows and a stunning Wetlands Nature Reserve, trust me - there’s always a job that needs doing somewhere. And especially when you’re open to the public 24 hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days a year. Managing scrub and woodland, clearing paths and ponds, trimming hedges, cutting reeds – you name it, we get to do it.

The Millennium Country Park is only one of 11 different sites owned by the Forest of Marston Vale, which covers 61 square miles and incorporates everything from woodlands to wetlands; ponds to lakes. Tending to the many diverse needs is certainly ‘no stroll in the park’, but fortunately I’ve got the STIHL cordless range of PRO equipment in my corner, to help me deal with the many different daily challenges and give me the support my team and I need.

At some stage, I find myself calling upon all the tools in the STIHL PRO cordless power system including high performance hedge trimmers, lightweight brushcutters, powerful blowers and not forgetting, of course, standard setting chainsaws. They offer me everything I need in terms of great energy efficiency, consistently high performance and the best possible ergonomics for many long hours of comfortable use. Perhaps just as importantly, particularly when you have over a quarter of a million visitors each year, the STIHL PRO tools are superbly quiet in operation, which leaves us free to carry on doing essential work in noise-sensitive areas without disturbing wildlife or the public.

Another key consideration for us is our carbon footprint. There is a 92 metre wind turbine in the Millennium Country Park that can be seen from all across the Forest and helps us to run the Forest Centre and up to 1050 houses on renewable energy, along with 400m2 of photovoltaic panels on the roof of the Forest Centre. We take our environmental responsibilities very seriously so being able to use equipment that not only delivers a long battery life, but also an emission free performance, is perfect for our needs – and perfectly matches our philosophy.

STIHL and the Forest of Marston Vale are a perfect partnership. Tools that are simple, flexible and sustainable. And always get the job, any job, done.
