TRY YOUR HAND AT STIHL® TIMBERSPORTS®

STIHL invites rookie athletes to test their skills with an axe and chainsaw: 25 and 26 February 2012

If you fancy testing your skills and with an axe and chainsaw and want to get involved in the major league of lumberjack sports, STIHL is holding a weekend of ‘Rookies' Open Days to encourage potential competitors into STIHL® TIMBERSPORTS®. 

The inaugural demonstration of STIHL® TIMBERSPORTS® in Great Britain was held at APF 2010, showing the thrills of this sport and great skill of athletes to many hundreds of visitors who watched the events. Now STIHL is inviting anyone who wants to get involved in the sport to join one of its ‘Rookies' Open Days where they can test their own skills and establish their potential to pursue STIHL® TIMBERSPORTS®.

The ‘Rookies' Open Days are on Saturday 25th and Sunday 26th February 2012 at Walford College, Shrewsbury. Potential TIMBERSPORTS® competitors are invited to attend just one of either day, when they will initially be tested to assess their competency to pursue TIMBERSPORTS®, and will then go on to receive some basic training in specific disciplines. No prior experience in lumberjack sports is required as STIHL is keen to encourage beginners into the sport, but basic chain saw certification is a requirement. 

Expert STIHL® TIMBERSPORTS® trainers will attend the Open Days and will evaluate participants, with those considered suitable and wishing to progress asked to attend two further training camps during May and June. There will then be the potential to either compete in or demonstrate at an official STIHL® TIMBERSPORTS® event set to take place this year.

Commenting, Spike Milton who is an Official Trainer for STIHL® TIMBERSPORTS® and who has represented Great Britain in the STIHL® TIMBERSPORTS® Series individual World Championship for the past six years, said :  "It's very exciting that we're starting a programme of STIHL® TIMBERSPORTS® activity in Great Britain this year, and it's something I know many British lumberjack sportsmen have long been keen to get involved. I have been competing in STIHL® TIMBERSPORTS® since 2005, and whilst I obviously enjoy the competitive side, which has given me the chance to meet some great people from all around the world, I am really keen to put my ‘trainers' hat on over here and encourage more athletes into the sport.  I hope we'll spot some exciting new talent at the training camps this year and I encourage anyone who's interested to come along."

The STIHL® TIMBERSPORTS® Open Days take place on Saturday 25th and Sunday 26th February 2012. Venue: Walford College, Shrewsbury. Those wishing to attend either day must complete and send in an entry form available from STIHL GB (Tel. 01276 417612). Closing date for applications : Friday 17 February. Places on the Open Days are limited and no entries will be permitted on the day.
