Get a taste of TIMBERSPORTS

If you are interested in honing your axe and chainsaw skills and want to get involved in major league lumberjack sport, why not try your hand at STIHL TIMBERSPORTS®?

STIHL TIMBERSPORTS is considered the major worldwide league of lumberjack sports, attracting highly-skilled athletes to compete with axes and saws, and the sport continues to build in Great Britain.

STIHL are always looking to find the next generation of TIMBERSPORTS athletes, and hold Taster Weekends every Spring, where newcomers are initially tested to assess their competency to pursue TIMBERSPORTS, before receiving expert training in the four rookie disciplines – Stock Saw, Single Buck, Standing Block Chop and the Underhand Chop.

STIHL is keen to encourage beginners into the sport so no TIMBERSPORTS experience is necessary but Spike Milton, former STIHL TIMBERSPORTS British Champion and Head TIMBERSPORTS Trainer says “Newcomers interested in taking up TIMBERSPORTS need to be prepared to train hard, pick up new techniques fast and be prepared to continuously fine-tune their techniques”.

“STIHL TIMBERSPORTS is a serious sport in Great Britain thanks to its connection to traditional lumber jacking, a practise that is deeply rooted in this country’s heritage. Today it is a fast-paced, highly skilled sport that attracts millions of viewers worldwide,” says Spike.

The most promising athletes from the Taster Weekends are then invited to join ongoing training and some may have the opportunity to compete in the next STIHL TIMBERSPORTS Rookie Championship. A new recruit in 2016, Scott Fowkes (pictured above), went on to win the 2016 Rookie Championship so the sky is the limit!

If you are interested in taking part in STIHL TIMBERSPORTS or have any other questions please e-mail marketing@stihl.co.uk and we will contact you to let you know the dates of future Taster Weekends.

PLEASE NOTE we have closed applications for the 2017 newcomers training camps.

TIMBERSPORTS Taster Weekends are only open to those aged 16 and over, and who are residents of Great Britain (England, Wales, Scotland), IOM or Channel Islands (excludes Northern Ireland). We are unable to accept applications from employees of ANDREAS STIHL Ltd. or STIHL & VIKING Approved Dealers.
