Improving the speed, accuracy and safety of cutting bricks or paving blocks with a cut-off saw, the innovative new STIHL Brick Jig is an inspired building site assistant. A brilliant concept and masterpiece of simple design, the STIHL Brick Jig is a portable, on-the-ground frame, which holds multiple bricks or paving blocks ready to be cut with a cut-off saw. Anyone who has seen the ‘toe-hold' technique used by many labourers cutting bricks with a cut-off saw, will appreciate the great safety benefits that using a Brick Jig will bring. And those with an eye on budgets will appreciate the increased productivity of multiple brick cutting, along with the reduced waste and cost benefits of being able to cut angles more accurately, or being able to cut two half bricks from a whole.
The concept of the Brick Jig is a simple one. And it is the brainchild of a bricklayer, as good building tools often are. Enabling multiple bricks to be cut more swiftly, safely and accurately with a cut-off saw, the Brick Jig has been developed and manufactured by STIHL, which is known for its robust quality products and is the world's best selling cut-off saw brand.
What is the Brick Jig?
The STIHL Brick Jig is a portable and robust metal frame which holds up to ten bricks at a time, to be cut quickly and consistently with a cut-off saw. Bricks are secured in place by a clamp and plate, and an adjustable cutting guide allows a measured, clean and accurate cut. Bricks can be cut square or at a specified angle by setting another clearly marked guide – perfect for example for block paving, where many angles often need to be cut. The Brick Jig is designed and built for the rigours of a building site; it is robust and hard-wearing, needs minimal maintenance and is simple to use.
Two versions of the Brick Jig are available. The larger model has a ten-brick capacity – ideal for fast-moving building sites. The small Brick Jig holds three bricks and is ideal for lower volume jobs. It is also small enough to be used on scaffolding where conditions allow.
Increase productivity: cut ten bricks in under three minutes
Cutting bricks or paving blocks on a building site is labour intensive and time-consuming; each brick is normally cut individually and then loaded into a hod. The large STIHL Brick Jig means up to ten bricks can be cut in under three minutes, and that means a massive increase in productivity for a labourer or hod-carrier.
Improve accuracy: cut bricks consistently and accurately
The Brick Jig's cutting guides enable a measured or angled cut, with bricks cut consistently accurately, saving potential wastage and time.
Improve work safety: stop the toe-hold cutting technique
One of the most common techniques used in brick-cutting sees a brick put on the ground and held in place with the toe of a boot whilst being cut with a cut-off saw. It's often the reality, but definitely not safe working practice. Using a Brick Jig, the ‘toe-hold technique' should become a thing of the past, and that radically improves safety.
Reduce waste: get two half bricks out of a whole
The ‘toe-hold' method of brick cutting often means only one ‘half brick' is cut from a whole, and with the rest of the brick often wasted that can build up to significant unnecessary cost. The great accuracy of cut achieved on a Brick Jig means two half bricks can easily be cut from a whole. And that represents an immediate 100% cost benefit as you no longer lose half a brick's value in waste.
